These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the ChoreBrawl mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Service”). The Service is operated by Freek van Gorkum, an independent developer based in the Netherlands, trading as ChoreBrawl (“ChoreBrawl,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
ChoreBrawl is a two-player “chore tug-of-war” game for couples and households. You and your partner share a household, log the chores you complete, and the rope position shifts toward whoever is contributing more. The Service tracks monthly matches and a season leaderboard. The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial entertainment and organizational purposes.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher) to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may only use the Service with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
3. Accounts and Households
To use the Service you must create an account using a valid email address. We authenticate you using a one-time code or magic link sent to that address; you are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure. A household is created by one player (the “household creator”), and a second player joins it with an invite code. You are responsible for sharing your invite code only with the person you intend to play with, and for all activity that occurs under your account.
A player who joined a household can leave it at any time, and the household creator can remove the other player from the household. The household creator cannot leave their own household; deleting their account deletes the household for both players, as described in Section 11.
You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date. You may not impersonate another person, create an account on someone else’s behalf without permission, or share your account with others.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree that you will not:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
- Attempt to interfere with, compromise, or disrupt the Service, including probing, scanning, or testing the vulnerability of any system or network;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
- Access the Service through automated means, or attempt to falsify chore logs, game state, or scores through means other than normal use of the app;
- Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm another person, or to upload content that is unlawful, infringing, or offensive.
5. User Content
You may enter content into the Service, such as your display name, a household name, and custom chores (“User Content”). You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, and display your User Content solely as necessary to operate and provide the Service to you and your household partner. You are solely responsible for your User Content and represent that you have the right to submit it.
6. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, game mechanics, text, graphics, and the ChoreBrawl name and logo, is owned by ChoreBrawl and is protected by intellectual property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for your personal use. No rights are granted to you other than as expressly set out in these Terms.
7. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including our backend and hosting provider, and the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for distribution. Your use of those platforms is governed by their respective terms. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.
8. Subscriptions and Fees
Subscriptions
Access to the Service requires a paid, auto-renewing subscription. The available subscription plans, prices, and billing periods are shown in the app before you buy, and may vary by country. Prices include any taxes the applicable app store is required to collect.
One subscription per household
Only the household creator needs a subscription. Their subscription unlocks the Service for both players in their household, and joining a household is always free. If the creator’s subscription ends, the household becomes read-only for both of you: you can still see your history, but you can’t log chores or start new matches until the creator subscribes again. Your chore history, scores, and titles are kept in the meantime.
Free trial
We may offer a free trial when you create a household. The length of the trial and eligibility rules are shown in the app before you start it. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your subscription will start and you will be charged automatically at the end of the trial. A free trial is generally available once per account, as determined by the applicable app store.
Billing, renewal, and cancellation
All purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, not by ChoreBrawl, and are subject to that store’s terms. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app or your ChoreBrawl account does not cancel your subscription. When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the current billing period.
Refunds
Because payments are handled by the app stores, refund requests must be made to Apple or Google under their refund policies. Nothing in these Terms limits any refund or withdrawal rights you have under applicable consumer protection law.
Price changes
We may change subscription prices from time to time. We will give you advance notice of any price increase as required by the applicable app store and by law, and where required, you will be asked to agree to the new price before it applies. A price change takes effect at the start of your next billing period after notice.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any data (including chore logs and scores) will be accurate or preserved. ChoreBrawl is a game and is not intended to be a system of record.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will ChoreBrawl be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or €50.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability where that would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for intent or gross negligence, or under mandatory consumer protection law.
11. Account Deletion and Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from the Settings tab in the app, or by following the steps on our account deletion page. Deletion is permanent. If you are the household creator, deleting your account also deletes the household and its shared history for both players. If you joined a household, only your own data is deleted and the household continues. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription; see Section 8.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you seriously or repeatedly violate these Terms, or if we discontinue the Service. Where reasonably possible we will give you notice first, and if we discontinue the Service we will tell you in advance. Upon termination, the licenses granted to you will end. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) will survive.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect, and update the effective date above. If you don’t agree with the changes, you can stop using the Service, cancel your subscription, and delete your account. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by Dutch law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights regarding digital content and services that are faulty or not as described.
If something goes wrong, please contact us first at support@chorebrawl.comand we’ll try to sort it out. Any dispute that we can’t resolve together will be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you are a consumer living in the EU, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.
